Key Facts about Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport (FLL)
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) is the primary airport serving Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and the Broward County area. It is located approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of downtown Fort Lauderdale and 21 miles (34 km) north of Miami. It offers over 700 daily flights to more than 135 domestic and international destinations. JetBlue and Allegiant Air use FLL as a base, and Southwest Airlines operates it as its primary, alongside approximately 30 other operating airlines. The Rental Cars at FLL Airport is located adjacent to Terminal 1 and is accessible by pedestrian bridge or free shuttle bus from all terminals, housing all major rental car companies in one facility.
FLL currently operates four passenger terminals, Terminal 1, 2, 3, and 4, with a fifth terminal under construction as part of the airport’s master plan. Terminal 1 spans Concourses A, B, and C with 24 gates. Terminal 2 has two concourses. Terminal 3 handles a mix of domestic and international services. Terminal 4 serves as the international terminal with Concourse G, hosting 14 gates.
Recent Upgrades at FLL Airport
Terminal 5 under construction: A new Terminal 5 is being built at FLL with a $404 million investment. It will initially feature five gates and modernised retail and dining services, integrated with existing infrastructure via pedestrian walkways.
Major redevelopment programme underway: These include airside terminal connections between Terminals 1, 2, and 3; a new intermodal centre; and an automated people mover system connecting all terminals, parking garages, and the intermodal centre, a significant infrastructure upgrade for passenger connectivity across the airport.
Concourse G modernisation at Terminal 4: Terminal 4’s international concourse underwent a significant renovation, replacing the older Concourse H with the modern Concourse G. The upgrade improved gate areas, passenger amenities, and retail and dining offerings within the international terminal.
Palm Garage reconstruction and on-site hotel: Plans are in place to reconstruct the Palm Garage and develop an on-site hotel and conference centre adjacent to the rebuilt structure, the first airport hotel directly on FLL’s campus.
Broward Commuter Rail station: A proposed station on the Broward Commuter Rail section of the FEC Coastal Link is planned for the airport, which would add a direct rail connection to FLL for the first time and significantly improve public transit access from Fort Lauderdale and surrounding Broward County communities.
