Currency Exchange and ATMs at San Diego Airport

San Diego International Airport (SAN) has one currency exchange counter and multiple ATMs spread across its two passenger terminals and the Rental Car Center. It has a single currency exchange location, operated by Currency Exchange International (CXI) in Terminal 2. ATMs operated by Bank of America are available in both terminals and are accessible 24 hours a day. Passengers flying internationally from SAN, or arriving from abroad, should be aware of the limited currency exchange coverage, particularly if departing from Terminal 1, which has no exchange counter.

About Currency Exchange (CXI) at SAN

Currency Exchange International is a foreign currency exchange company operating across North America. The SAN Airport counter is a full-service CXI Airport branch, with foreign currency available on demand for the most popular international currencies without waiting. Over 80 currencies can be exchanged or ordered.

Services available at the CXI SAN counter:

  • Foreign currency exchange (USD to foreign currency and foreign currency to USD)

  • Online pre-order for collection at the counter

  • Western Union money transfers

Online pre-order: CXI allows passengers to reserve foreign currency online at ceifx.com or by calling the SAN counter at 619-260-1921 ahead of arrival. Pre-ordering can secure a confirmed rate and guarantees that the currency needed is available at the counter, which is particularly useful for less common currencies that may not always be in stock for walk-in customers.

Payment methods accepted: Cash, debit cards, and credit cards are accepted for USD payments. A valid government-issued photo ID is required for all credit and debit card transactions. Credit card transactions are capped at $2,999.99 and debit card transactions at $4,999.99. Note that credit card companies should classify currency exchange transactions as cash advances and apply their own additional fees; this is outside CXI’s control.

Final Words

San Diego International Airport provides currency exchange and money withdrawal. The service provider CXI has only one office at the airport, at Terminal 2. However, ATMs are available throughout the airport in different public areas. The rates of currencies can change at any time, depending on the market, and must be checked through the official website of the company.
